Spitfire the Musical

Spitfire the Musical - Showcase Concert

Spitfire is a brand new musical, making its debut at Charing Cross Theatre, with a showcase of songs from this exciting new show.

Spitfire tells the story of Jenny, her journey of self-determination to become a pilot with the Air Transport Auxiliary in the Second World War, and her relationship with an RAF pilot called George. With the support of her aunt Joy, Jenny yearns to break away from the expectations of others, fly Spitfires, and find freedom, overcoming societal norms, chauvinism, and psychological challenges to reach her goals. Indeed, George has his own physical and mental struggles, which seriously threaten his relationship with Jenny. Friendships are made, and love is found, lost, and regained, set against the tragic consequences of total war.

Spitfire is written by Steve Darlow (book & lyrics) and Glenn Tollett (music), and is produced by Amanda Faber and the Soldier's Arts Academy. Director Nicola Allpress is joined by Musical Director Chris Hatt (currently the Associate Musical Director for Hamilton).

Soldier On by Jonathan Lewis

Produced by Amanda Faber

What happens when a company of ex-soldiers becomes a company of actors - a theatrical band of brothers? A group of veterans and actors rehearse a play about a group of veterans and actors. It is not a cure-all but the bonding, the humour - the "Theatre of War" - all help to put them back together again. Although worlds apart they begin to realise there are more similarities between military life and the theatre; they build a powerful new world of their own. This is a heart-warming story about surviving the forces, dealing with traumatic experiences, and what happens when you leave the military family.

Richard III by William Shakespeare

Produced by the Soldiers’ Arts Academy

with the Combat Veteran Players

Formed in 2011, the CVP is a company of ex-Service personnel who have come together to overcome mental trauma, injury and related difficulties through skill-building and performance of high quality Shakespeare. It brings a perspective to Richard III and its protagonist that no other company can match.

This performance was the premiere of a short tour which then moved to London.

The production was generously funded by The Soldier’s Charity, Help for Heroes and Stoll. The company was embracing the 400th Anniversary commemoration of Shakespeare’s death and recently performed for His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales on the site of Shakespeare’s home, New Place. It worked in partnership with the RSC through its Open Stages programme and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.
